This month, Fifax and ReelData kicked off efforts to leverage ReelData’s biomass camera system in the Fifax facility in Åland, Finland. Fifax, is ReelData’s first Finnish customer and it will also be the first time ReelData will be measuring Rainbow Trout with the ReelWeight technology. The trial is planned to run for several months and will be used to assess average weight estimation and weight distribution accuracy using the AI camera system designed specifically for land-based systems.
Niclas Jansson, Head of Operations at Fifax said about the trial “We are very happy to be collaborating with ReelData. Fifax's vision is to be a forerunner in large-scale sustainable fish farming with minimal impact on the environment, and so we are always looking for ways to streamline our practices and improve efficiency. We see AI technology as a fantastic opportunity to accelerate that pathway. We believe that ReelData's biomass cameras have great potential to help us further optimize our practices, while monitoring welfare.
Tim Trussell, ReelData Technology and Innovation Manager, shared his enthusiasm for the trial, “The ReelWeight trial at Fifax offers a great opportunity to demonstrate the flexibility of the ReelWeight system to offer value in another prevalent land based species, Rainbow Trout. We’re thrilled to be partnering with a company with such a focus on ecologically sustainable fish farming, and we are excited about their strategic position within the Swedish and Finnish markets.”
Niclas, also remarked on a great start to the working relationship with ReelData. “The team has been incredibly responsive. They were able to quickly get onsite with us, working closely to ensure the system will accurately estimate our fish, while understanding our operation.”
The ReelWeight deployment at Fifax adds to a growing list of existing commercial and trial agreements for ReelData’s newest technology, as ReelWeight adoption in recent months has resulted in multiple deployments across Norway, Iceland, Canada, Chile, the Netherlands, and the UK.
ReelData (www.reeldata.ai) is based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and provides a suite of Artificial Intelligence and automation products that allow land-based fish farms to increase productivity and profitability while decreasing risk.
Fifax Plc headquartered in Eckerö, Finland and is one of the world’s leading land-based fish farming companies, specializing in Rainbow Trout. Fifax production uses an ultra-intensive implementation of the RAS method, which is based on an almost completely closed water circulation loop. The water used in production is pumped from the Baltic Sea, after which the water is purified, and it circulates in the RAS system again and again. This method allows us to create a growth environment where we can take better care of the fish, while minimising any side effects upon the environment.
